Top 5 Reasons Why Business Owners Hire Coaches

Another FAQ we receive...

"Why would a business owner need a coach? Most don't have them."

You're right – most don't – but we're certainly chipping away.

I could give you countless reasons (and real-life examples) of why and how coaching delivers amazing results for business owners. I'll give you the top five to keep it simple.

1. Identify the Real Problems in the Business

Owners frequently become so engrossed in their profession that they have a hard time identifying where they went wrong (or even right). A business coach provides an impartial assessment of the business – the 30,000-foot view that so many business owners need. They can quickly identify systemic issues that leaders may have ignored and assist them in finding the best remedies.

Most issues that the owner has involves these things in some capacity.

  • Time
  • Team
  • Money

One of these areas almost always needs improvement – and as the business improves, the owner, team, and customers always reap the rewards.

2. Provide Much-Needed Accountability

The largest hindrance to a business success usually has nothing to do with operations. Most problems always come back to the owner. For example, tolerance with staff, forgotten projects, or things slipping through the cracks – all contribute to a business that won’t grow they way it should.

A business coach will assist owners in setting the top action items that lead towards growth – and chew the owner’s ear off until they get done. Furthermore, the consistent input and guidance along the way will make these critical tasks that much more achievable. Then, when these actions do get done, the coach can guide the owner to the next set.

3. Find New Avenues for Growth

Many owners limit the vision for their business’s growth. Business coaches crush these self-limiting beliefs and get owners focused on thinking outside the box.

As mentioned earlier, that 30,000 ft view gives the coach an advantage because they can look at the business structure, compare it with competitors and the market in an unbiased manner, and make great recommendations.

Imagine how much better strategic planning sessions would go if there was an expert “mediator” in the room. This person could gather all leadership perspectives, draw it all out, collaborate on the best possible solution, and get buy-in from anyone. Hate to say it, but most owners can’t do all of that effectively, crippling their growth plans.

4. Challenge the Mindset

All great athletes have a coach – Why? Because two heads are always better than one. Most coaches have ownership or leadership experience. And for small business owners still in the “game,” this sideline guidance works wonders on their mindset.

Whether an owner is considering new campaigns, sales techniques, team building, or operational improvements, they always get a better result if they run your ideas by an experienced professional.

Group programs in particular bring together like-minded business owners who share ideas and thoughts while being monitored by a professional coach who asks the tough questions. And coaches don't only offer advice to the CEO – they impact the entire leadership team.

5. Share Knowledge

Even those who “know everything there is to know” have gaps in knowledge. Business coaches, at least the great ones, have seen almost every problem there is – in a wide variety of industries and competitive environments.

ActionCOACH clients in particular pay for their coach of course, but they also pay for the wealth of knowledge shared by over 1,000 ActionCOACHes around the world. If a coach can’t solve an owner’s problem, they call up another coach who undoubtedly has dealt with the problem.

Whether an owner is new to the game or a seasoned veteran, struggling or thriving, satisfied or dissatisfied, coaching always makes a positive difference.
